Declare, Add or Change Your Major

Here's how to declare, add, or change your major

Most students who plan to pursue a major in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington are directly admitted into the College at the beginning of their freshman year. However, if you enter as a student in IU's Advising and Major Exploratory Services (AMES) or choose to start out in another IU school, there are pathways for you to declare, add, or switch to a College major.

We’ll help you figure out how to enter the College or one of its schools: the  Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, or The Media School.

To declare a major in the College, make an appointment with the academic advisor in the department of your intended major. It's that simple!

If you’ve already entered the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, or The Media School, good news: you’re already a College student. If you want to add or change your major, make an appointment with the academic advisor in the department of your intended major.
